Lamp Unto My Feet
Each year, American University of Health Sciences Foundation (AUHS Foundation) sponsors “Lamp Unto My Feet” where volunteers provide health screening and wash the feet of our homeless brothers and sisters. This is a part of AUHS Foundation’s homeless outreach program where American University of Health Sciences (AUHS) students wash the feet of the homeless while offering health screening, prayer, and food. This program was started by a graduating AUHS nursing students, to demonstrate genuine humility and develop true care in our students. Lamp Unto My Feet has grown to include offerings of hygiene kits with clean socks, a snack bag, medication review and preventative health education by Pharmacists and Alms from Pastor Gregory Johnson of A Church of Love.
As a Christian based non-profit organization, AUHS Foundation strives to serve all people according to the teachings of Jesus. Jesus Christ washed the feet of his disciples prior to the Last Supper. In doing so, He displayed His humility and His servanthood. As his followers, we are to emulate Him, serving one another and seeking to build one another up in humility and love. Lamp Unto My Feet is held during Christianity’s Holy Week to remind each of us to live as He has lived.
