Free COVID Vaccinations at AUHS
With the slowdown of vaccination rates among eligible people, it has become increasingly critical to make vaccinations easily accessible for those with concerns or limited time. To continue ensuring the safety and well-being of the public, the AUHS Foundation held its first COVID-19 vaccination clinic at the American University of Health Sciences (AUHS) campus on Saturday, May 22, 2021 from 10:00 AM – 2:00 PM, to lower access barriers and to provide access to healthcare professionals. In partnership with the San Gabriel Medical Pharmacy and AUHS, attendees who were 18 years of age and older were given their vaccine of choice, Moderna or Johnson & Johnson, and participated in a raffle prize drawing. Prizes included: a foldable electric scooter, 2 Disneyland tickets, 8 Knott’s Berry Farm tickets with parking, six $50 Visa gift cards, and restaurant gift cards. Registered Nurses from the AUHS School of Nursing, School of Pharmacy students, and Pharmacists from the AUHS School of Pharmacy and San Gabriel Medical Pharmacy administered 68 vaccines. Licensed Doctors and Pharmacists also educated recipients about the vaccination process. In addition, many AUHS students volunteered to help the clinic run smoothly. Many vaccine recipients indicated that convenience and getting their questions answered were the primary reason they came to get the vaccine. The second Moderna vaccine follow-up date is scheduled for Saturday, June 19, whereas the Johnson & Johnson vaccine will also be made available. The AUHS Foundation and AUHS would like to thank the San Gabriel Medical Pharmacy for supplying the vaccines but most importantly, express their gratitude and thanks to God for bringing forth this blessed opportunity to aid the public.
