Free Flu Shots for the Community

On Saturday, September 19, 2020, AUHS Foundation, in collaboration with the American University of Health Sciences (AUHS) and Walgreens Pharmacy, located on Anaheim Street in Long Beach, provided free flu shots for the public. The event, held from 9:00 A.M. to 1:00 P.M., was located at the campus parking lot at AUHS on 1600 E. Hill Street in the city of Signal Hill. In light of COVID-19, flu shots were administered through a drive-thru setting to the first 150 people (ages 3 and up) who attended the event.  Attendees were advised to wear loose clothing that quickly bared the upper arm near the shoulder. AUHS Assistant Professors of Clinical & Administrative Sciences, Dr. Sara Kim and Dr. Joseph Kunchandy, along with Walgreens Pharmacy Manager, Robert Yagar, were among the pharmacists who administered the flu shots. Every year, AUHS Foundation promotes the importance of getting vaccinated for the flu as a preventative measure for maintaining good health; however, this year holds more urgency as we work towards preventing the spread of the influenza virus during the COVID-19 pandemic. It is a blessing from God to have the opportunity to work with Walgreens and AUHS that share our mission to bring quality health services into neighborhoods and to improve the lives of residents we serve.
